Facilitation in Healthcare

Facilitation in Healthcare

It was a pleasure speaking at the “Power of Facilitation in Healthcare” webinar organized by the Healthcare Leadership Academy – أكاديمية القيادة الصحية in collaboration with experts from North Star Facilitators, in celebration of this year’s facilitation week. We could sense the excitement among the 240+ participants who were intrigued by the experiences and stories we shared, and hopefully would pursue learning more about process facilitation.

Facilitation in the healthcare context couldn’t be more vital especially amid the current time of healthcare system transformation.
The changes required and the challenges ahead are so complex that critical decisions shouldn’t be made in a vacuum without the genuine engagement and participation of everyone involved, from all levels, and across the system.

When healthcare leaders develop their facilitation repertoire, they will enable true alignment, harness collective intelligence of individuals and teams, reach consensus on what really matters, and foster the commitment to the mission and the bumpy road ahead.

Whether developing policies, strategizing, managing projects, solving problems, or making decisions, facilitation helps in “how” to do it effectively and efficiently. On the contrary, the lack of facilitation in such a complex environment results in faulty decisions, delayed execution, wasted resources, and poor outcomes both on the task and relationship levels.

I believe that the healthcare system is in need of more venues to raise the awareness about the underappreciated and misunderstood art of facilitation, and the impact it could make on the future.
